San Antonio Chapter
Organization
The San Antonio Chapter of the Executive Women’s Golf Association is an all volunteer organization. Its success depends upon the efforts and commitment of its members. To that end, the organization is comprised of committees. This will “spread the wealth” of the various tasks, etc. needed to keep the Chapter as vibrant and effective as when it was founded in 1995.
The elected positions of president, vice-president, secretary and treasurer make up the Executive Committee of the Chapter. There are nine functioning committees that develop and implement the various Chapter programs. These are Communications, Golf Education & Player Development, Events, League, Leadership, Membership, Handicap, Social Events, and Sponsorship. The two non-voting positions are Immediate Past President and the chair of the Scholarship Fund Committee. More about these two positions later. In the mean time, here are descriptions of each of the committees.
Communications: Produces and distributes the Chapter newsletter and other communications to the membership. Creates and maintains the Chapter website. Coordinates and oversees the production and distribution of marketing and communications materials. Develops strategies and tactics and oversees the implementation and execution of plans and programs to achieve public relations and communications goals.
Membership: Develops the Chapter membership goals and set objectives for new member growth and retention of existing members.
Golf Education and Player Development: Develops and implements the calendar of Chapter golf education and player development programs. These include at a minimum new golfer programs, mentoring and transition to play programs, programs for more experienced golfers, rules and etiquette seminars, and golf for business seminars. An important role is to develop and maintain relationships with teaching professionals, networking for the benefit of the Chapter and its membership.
Events: Plans and produces the different golf events for the membership. These include at a minimum the tee-times, the Chapter Championship and various other tournaments.
League: Plans and produces the league plays for the Chapter. These include at a minimum the Winter league and the Summer North and South leagues.
Social Events: Plans and executes non-golfing social and networking events for the membership. Works with the Vice President in the planning and production of the annual Kick-Off event. Organizes and produces the End-of-Year Celebration with the assistance of the Chapter Executive Committee and Board.
Sponsorship: Leads efforts to obtain sponsorship funds, non-dues revenue (such as auctions, drawings and mulligans) and in-kind support for the operation of the Chapter. Manages the sponsorship agreements. Fosters strong relationships with sponsors.
Handicap: Provides oversight, management and, especially, local support to membership with the computerized ASSOCIATION Handicap System. Works with Chapter membership to ensure the integrity of the handicap system.
Leadership: Works with Chapter leadership in the recruiting and retaining of membership for Chapter committees, Board, events and activities. Assists committee chairs in developing processes needed to effectively lead their committees to meet goals. Works with leadership in developing cohesion should difficulties arise. Manages the Chapter volunteer recognition program.
Scholarship (non-voting): Facilitates the scholarship application and selection process. Plans and implements fund-raising activities to support scholarship program. NOTE: This is a San Antonio Chapter initiative that is separate from the EWGA Foundation. The Scholarship Fund is a Texas 501(c)3 non-profit.
Immediate Past President (non-voting): Provides support and guidance to the Chapter leadership. This position is filled by the previous Chapter president following the completion of her term of office.
The term lengths of each of the offices and positions are outlined in the Chapter by-laws and are in accordance with the by-laws of the ASSOCIATION.
