2009 2nd Annual Nancy Dooling Scholarship Golf Tournament November 14, 2009 Over 40 golfers enjoyed a great day of golf during the 2nd Annual Nancy Dooling Scholarship Golf Tournament held at Pecan Valley. Three lucky players walked away with a share of $1,500 Saturday evening. Fran DuBose (REPEAT!! from last year), Katharine Golas and Lindsay Thorne took home $500 each after deciding to split the cash rather than waiting to see which golf ball would be the last ball standing. Drawing winners included Michael Aguilar, who won the $700 Mercedes Benz of Boerne Day Spa and Richard Pawly, who won the $500 Texas Shine Car Wash donated by David & Kat Villarreal. Players also won restaurant certificates, lessons, golf balls, gift baskets, and other great gifts. All participants had a great time playing golf, socializing and eating steak while waiting patiently for all the terrific prizes to be distributed. This year the tournament also provided a box lunch from Boston Subworks!! The tournament itself, set as a three-person team event, showed to be a tight race for participants and the field was close! 1st place went to the team from Wortham Insurance (one of our hole sponsors) consisting of Rod Tootle, Russ Tootle, and Jed Dorsey. They won travel bags along with rounds at The Dominion, Sonterra and La Cantera - Palmer Course. Awarded 2nd Place of $40 Rolling Oaks Value Cards with rounds at La Cantera - Resort Course, The Hyatt Hill Country, and Canyon Springs was the team of Lon Martin, Terri West and our guest from the Little Rock Chapter of EWGA, Jill Steinhauer. The battle between 3rd and 4th was separated by only 0.2 with Shelayne Clammer, Tricia Sullivan and Fran DuBose edging the team from BKD LLP, one of our hole sponsors, of John Bruce, Dalissa Hamer and Cara DeAnda. The 3rd place winners won NifTeeSeat covers and rounds at Vaaler Creek, the Republic and Pecan Valley while 4th place received green-side caddies and rounds at the Bandit, the Buckhorn and Pleasanton. We also awarded a last-place finish of one-hour lessons with Brad Martin to Teresita, Michael and Willie Aguilar! Kitty Meyers and Justin Peeler earned the longest drive awards with Mary Carriker and Dave Young winning the closest-to-the-pin contests. The 50/50 drawing winner was Kitty Meyers, who was very excited, needless to say. Justin Peeler won the Horseshoe Bay getaway for the Hole-In-One Challenge hosted by The Children's Miracle Network. Shelayne Clemmer outbid Jill Steinhauer for the Houston Texans package and Patricia Miller was the highest bidder for the San Antonio Spurs package. The Silent Auction items were a big hit this year with a number of bidders for each item. Rosalinda Juettemeyer, one of our scholarship recipient parents, donated a very nice fishing tackle box package which went to Steve Bly. During the event, our Hole Sponsors were recognized with banners and plaques. In addition, Dr. Brian Nietz, with the San Antonio Center for Physical Therapy addressed the crowd about golf injuries and prevention. Other sponsors included O'Haver Contractors, LeadingEdge Personnel, CDS/Muery Services, Seymour's Garage, North Park Lexus of San Antonio, Wortham Insurance, Frost Bank, Copier Supply Company, Golf Cars Etc., Mercedes Benz of Boerne, Barbara Peeler, and BKD, LLP, CPAs. We also thank Tony Vaught for the Hole-in-One Challenge. We cannot thank them enough for supporting our scholarship fund!! We could not showcase this tournament without our sponsors and event contributors! Event Contributors included Foresight Golf, The Dominion, Westin La Cantera, Hyatt Hill Country Resort, Canyon Springs, Vaaler Creek, and Pleasanton - all donating rounds of golf. Other donors included David Villarreal, Red McCombs, Kat Villarreal, Keller Williams; Anne Gallas, NAS Recruiting, Michele Little, Homewood Suites, EZ's Restaurant, Heather Lee, Burnett Staffing, HEB, Good Time Charlie's, Brian Cantrell, Golf Galaxy and many, many Chapter Members who donated items for the drawings, silent auction and goodie bags. Thanks to all the volunteers who helped make this tournament run more smoothly. And for the greatest news of all: the tournament met our goal by netting more than $4,000 for the chapter and our scholarship fund. Your support made this event a fantastic success and THANKS AGAIN TO EVERYONE WHO CONTRIBUTED BY DONATING, VOLUNTEERING, PLAYING AND BIDDING!!!
